I first contacted Julia Kopan when my puppy was eight weeks old. Having a new puppy was a first time experience for me and I realized early on there was a great deal I needed to know. Google helped a little, but I knew I needed an experienced professional to guide with puppy training. Julia was so kind and informative when I made the initial call to her. She prepared me for her first visit to our home. She was extremely thorough and professional. Julia has a way with animals. Our puppy immediately bonded with her and you could tell she had a true love for animals. The information Julia provided was exceptional and her guidance in training has helped the transition with our new puppy to be a fun experience. I highly recommend Julia. She is a wealth of knowledge, kind person and an experienced dog trainer.

Simply put, Julia Kopan is a wonderful trainer. She was our instructor for two years at a local training facility, Wags and Wiggles, and right off the bat, we knew she was different from the other trainers we had worked with. Julia took a personal interest in our dog, Koda, and really worked to train my husband and I so that we could be more effective with him. She observed everything we did and coached us to make us better. Koda did very well in his agility class, but struggled in his Canine Good Citizen class as we had gotten a little lax in our reinforcing good behavior. Because of her genuine interest in us, she offered to work with me to get his focus back on me and my directions. I had confided in her that I wanted to do therapy work with him and she was so very supportive of that dream! Julia became our private teacher and helped both Koda and I learn to work together as a team and became much more than our trainer, but a lifelong friend. In fact, if it wasn’t for Julia’s patience and support, my dog, Koda, and I would not be the Delta Therapy team we are today, having performed at the highest level on our test!
If you are looking for a trainer, look no further. You have found one of the best there is. We were very sad when she left Southern California but are excited to know that she is continuing to demonstrate her love of dogs and her understanding of their owners in her new home town.

Julia is an excellent trainer with a professional and positive approach towards people and their pets. I have known Julia as both a Certified Professional Dog Trainer and as a fellow competitor at agility settings. In her role as a Dog Trainer, Julia has helped my wife and I train our dogs in classes ranging from puppy socialization, AKC Canine Good Citizen and fun dog rodeo tricks. I have been impressed with Julia’s attention to our dogs’ individual needs that I have recommended her to a number of clients at my Veterinary Hospitals.

My dog Frankie and I attended several classes with Julia. I have been to many trainers over the years and she is by far the best. She is patient and understanding, extremely knowledgeable and professional. We traveled quite a distance to attend her classes rather than go to another trainer. I would highly recommend any class she teaches, we attended several obedience classes as well as agility and they were all wonderful.

My 3yr. old miniature schnauzer, Duncan, while being a good companion dog, was nervous and reactive to other dogs. I had worked with other trainers since Duncan was a puppy, mainly on obedience training but had not really gotten anywhere with changing his behavior.
I heard about Agility Classes & decided to try it out, not really expecting to do this as a method of correction but just as a fun thing for the two of us to do together. Wow, did I get more than I ever bargained for! I was completely new at this “Agility business” & felt very self-conscious but Julia immediately put me at ease & broke down the principles of Agility in simple, easy to understand concepts. Duncan and I learned a great deal and had fun at the same time. To my great delight and surprise Duncan was less nervous and not nearly so reactive. I cannot tell you how exciting it is to see a dog become more confident and less fearful. Of course being Duncan’s Mom I am not the most objective person but other people began to comment on the changes in Duncan, including his Veterinarian.
I hated to see Julia move, we would still be taking classes with her if we could. I think she truly has a gift relating to both the human end as well as the dog end of the leash. Thank you Julia for getting Duncan over a major hurdle and pointing us in the right direction.

Belle is not my first dog, but she is my most spirited, by far. I knew I needed structure
for Belle’s training and was pleased to find wonderful and experienced direction from
Julia Kopan. From the start, Julia was interested in what I thought my dog’s strengths
were and where we needed help. Her ideas were clearly presented and based on years
of success. Julia was patient as she observed me and other classmates work with our
dogs, interjecting advice as needed, but in a way which fostered our own understanding
of the dog’s perspective. I learned that desirable behaviors from my Belle were
directly linked to my consistency as a trainer and rewarding her positively so she would
understand my expectations. Whenever I had a question, Julia took time to understand
my concern and helped me find ways to improve Belle’s success in obedience. Going
to class was considered “working fun” for Belle and myself. We learned to be a great
team. Thanks to Julia’s guidance, I now have a dog who knows what’s expected
of her and who loves to please me by doing those things. Happy owner and happy dog
– great combination!

Beast, our big yellow lab, is our first dog and we had no idea what we were doing when he first came home. Instead of us training him, he trained us. Julia taught us how to take back our lives by communicating with Beast and using positive techniques. Julia was patient and caring with both the dogs and the people. She would jump in when something wasn't working and she could see we were getting frustrated. When we had a behavioral problem she would listen carefully to what we needed to find the best solutions. We also really like using positive techniques, by making Beast want to behave we have a better relationship with him.
Now, after group lessons, private lessons and day training, Beast is not only a happy member of our household but he is also a wonderful member of society. Years later we are still grateful for Julia and her amazing way with dogs.

I have known Julia Kopan for approximately 4 years. When we lived in Southern California, she was very instrumental in the training of my standard poodle. Since I like to keep my dog in ongoing training, we had gone through many group training classes and some tricks training classes with Julia. I had also hired her to do private training of my poodle as a Mobility Service Dog for my late husband. Julia had worked many, many hours training Corby for this job with great success. Julia exhibited great patience with not only my dog but also with me since I needed training too. I have also witnessed Julia’s training of other dog/human teams. She demonstrates much compassion and strength when working with anyone. Julia is very passionate about her work and also has a great sense of humor and is very enjoyable to be around. I miss Julia now that we live in different states. I would not hesitate in recommending her for any kind of training for dogs (and humans), or any other animals for that matter.
